Viber is a popular free Voice-over IP messaging service and Skype alternative, that can be used on your smartphone or PC. The Viber PC client takes the convenience of the mobile app and brings it to your PC so you can stay connected even when you don’t have your mobile phone. It also makes it easier to get on with work and multitask while communicating with your contacts.
Viber competes with Whatsapp for the title of the most popular cross platform/cross device messaging service globally. A key difference between Viber/Whatsapp and Skype is that you can communicate with all of your mobile phone contacts that are also using the service – not just your skype contacts. Voice call, chat, send SMS, pictures and videos for free to any of your phone contacts who also have the app installed. You can even video call with up to 100 of your contacts at the same time! A simple UI tops off the package nicely. The likes of Viber and Whatsapp have pretty much killed the traditional mobile SMS industry, thanks to their ease of use and ever improving data coverage.
To use Viber on your Windows PC you will first need install Viber on your mobile phone (Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Symbian and Windows Phone apps available). Next install the Windows desktop client on your PC and sign in to syncrhonize your contacts across the 2 devices. Then you’re done, call and chat to your heart’s content at no cost.
If you want to call other none VoIP users (landlines and mobile phones directly) you can using the Viber Out feature. These calls are not free, but do come at very competitive rates. You can use Viber Out by adding credit to your Viber account. Call quality is generally excellent, unless you are in an area with a poor internet connection.

Skype is the most popular free voice-over IP and instant messaging service globally. It allows users to text, video and voice call over the internet. Users can also call landlines and mobiles at competitive rates using Skype credit, premium accounts and subscriptions. Skype was publically released in 2003 and now accounts for roughly a third of all international calling minutes. Skype uses P2P technology to connect users on a multitude of platforms including desktop, mobile and tablet. The call quality (depending on your internet signal) and additional features like conversation history, conference calling and secure file transfer are excellent. There have been some criticisms over the programs bandwidth usage and security vulnerabilities.
Skype Calling
Once you’ve downloaded and installed Skype, you will need to create a user profile and unique Skype name. You can then search for other users in the Skype directory or call them directly using their Skype name. Voice chat comes with conference calling, secure file transfer and a highly secure end to end encryption. Video chat is available on higher bandwidth connections and makes keeping up with distant family/friends much more interactive. Video conferencing and the Screenshare features make Skype popular with the corporate market. Skype’s text chat client features group chat, chat history, message editing and emoticons. Skype also enables calls to landlines and mobiles using a premium paid service.
Easy to Use
Skype’s UI is very intuitive and easy to use. All the classic messaging service features like profiles, online status, contacts and recent history are displayed in the left navigation. Here you will also find the Skype directory, group options, a search box and premium calling buttons. The right side (main window) opens the content you select. For individual contacts you will see a text message box, chat history and calling options.
Call Quality
On fast internet connections Skype call quality is excellent for both voice and video calls. The hybrid peer-to-peer client server system means the sound quality is better than most VoIP services. That being said, if you do have a slower internet connection, voice calls may be interrupted or delayed. Video calls will be intermittent and pixelated. Text chat will only be affected by very poor connections. The call quality button will give you detailed information on the expected call quality for each of your contacts (as the quality depends on both parties internet connection).
Summary
If you’re looking for a reliable and easy to use VoIP client, you’ll find it hard to beat Skype. Microsoft’s purchase of Skype in 2011 has further stabilized the platform and accelerated development as Microsoft used Skype to replace its aging messaging service Windows Live Messenger. TEncoder has been designed to be as simple as possible to use. The app uses profiles to make conversions easy. Although you can select video and audio codecs manually and then choose almost innumerable ways to configure them, you don't have to, as you can use profiles that will apply those changes for you. You also have the option to trim your videos and add delays, convert your videos to animated gif or add watermarks.
TEncoder allows up to 16 simultaneous processes. You can also select between multiple audio and subtitle tracks and you can even add effects to your videos, like deinterlacing.
The downside to TEncoder is there are more than 840 different profiles that you can select from. Whilst this increases the chance that your device is listed from amongst the profiles, it makes it tricky to find the appropriate profile, especially if you just want to convert a file for playback on your PC or DVD player.
Overall, TEncoder has stacks of profiles to choose from to make it easy to convert videos to devices without prior knowledge of screen resolution, codecs or file formats, but you could get confused if you delve around too much.

The integration is very beautifully handled and the interface of this application is equally well designed. It is very neat and clean and the tasks are wonderfully organized. The application not just helps you in managing your own tasks, but also helps you to manage and collaborate with others. With this application it is also possible to create reminders for yourself, send notifications for your tasks and even capture some notes. In fact, notifications are not only available for the tasks that have been completed but the tasks that are being worked upon as well.
You can create tasks and then assign them to your friends, family or even with your colleagues. In that case, the application sends you continuous notifications on where the tasks are up to. Plus, there can be as many sub tasks to one task as you like. This makes sure that this simple to-do list lets you handle very complex tasks. The app can be used by beginners as well as advanced users and this works in its favor. If you want, you can change the appearance of the application by applying any of the 8 available skins. However, this feature is available only in the Pro version.
Wunderlist leaves almost zero space for criticism. It is a good productivity app for the users. The free version can be used by anyone and for any purpose. However, the users can also upgrade to the Pro version if they want a more professional experience for more complex tasks. The app is a great concept and works really nicely too.
